Village of Despair has been removed from the game as of the 26th of January 2020 as it was part of the Christmas 2019 Event.
This page has been preserved for historical purposes.

Description

Village of Despair was the event map for the Christmas 2019 Event. Like other event maps, it had a specialized wave structure with special enemies. Upon triumphing, players were rewarded with the Frost Blaster. You also got Ticket10-50 Tickets per wave completed, which could be used to buy items from the Event Store.

In this map, players started off with Cash (Gameplay Currency)$1,800 (or Cash (Gameplay Currency)$1,900 if players were in the community group).

Design & Path

Village of Despair took place in, as the name states, a snowy village, separated by a frozen river, creating two islands. The two islands were surrounded by a frozen sea. A railroad ran across the length of the map. Two concrete icy bridges could be seen crossing the river, with one of them carrying the railroad. A sailboat can be seen in the frozen river. A lighthouse and a rocky island could be seen at sea. The first island contained mostly mountainous terrain, with several cliffs for cliff towers to be placed on. However, a few houses could be seen, as well as lanterns that lined the path. A train station and a windmill could also be seen. The second island consisted of more buildings, windmills and Christmas decorations. There was also a toy factory at the end of the map. A large clock tower and windmill could be seen on this island.

The dark grey concrete path started from a cave, which had a forcefield wall. It turned around cliffs on the first island and crossed a concrete bridge to reach the second island. On the second island, a large cliff ran perpendicular to the direction of the path, so the path took a long detour around it. At the last part of the path, the path became inclined at some steps so enemies could reach the toy factory's doors.

Rewards

The game calculated how much Coin Coins, Experience EXP and Ticket Tickets you receive based on how many waves you survived and if you won a match. During periods of 50% more Experience EXP (08:00 UTC Friday – 08:00 UTC Sunday), any Experience EXP earned is multiplied by 1.5x.

Any rewards that end in a decimal point were rounded down, no matter the first figure of the leading decimal.

Village of Despair rewarded Ticket10-50 Tickets for every wave completed.

Rewards were calculated as:

Coins Reward EXP Reward
Coin 18 Ɨ Waves Waves Completed Ɨ Experience 2.5 EXP

Badges

There were also a few badges which you could obtain when playing this map during the event, which may have additional rewards alongside the badge. These were:

Rewards:

Wave Structure

In Village of Despair, the formula for calculating wave bonus on each wave was:

(Cash (Gameplay Currency)$50 - 5 Ɨ (Players - 1)) Ɨ Waves Completed

The waves in Village of Despair also followed these timings:

Waves Wave Timer Skip Time[1]
1-9 1:00 0:20[2]
10-12 2:00 0:40[3]
13-14 3:00 1:00[4]
15 166666666666666:40 N/A

Bolded names indicates an enemy type's debut.

Strategy

  • Ideally, you would want people to initially save up for the Minigunner given that the starting money is quite high.
    • However, you need to have someone defending while other people are doing this. Using a couple of Snipers on the middle hill on the first island, or a couple of Soldiers is recommended.
    • The Holiday Archer is also quite useful on this map, so long they are placed at the end of a long straight.
  • The first island should be the initial spot to place towers due to the rotation of the path here.
    • The DJ Booth can be used to extend a tower's range to cover the entirety of this part, if required.
    • A well placed Pyromancer can slow down enemies down on two separate parts of the path.
  • There are several cliffs to place down Outlaws and Snipers, making them ideal towers.
  • If enemies manage to leave the first island (which is especially likely for Krampus), then utilize the second island.
    • As with the first island, there are plenty of cliff spaces for Outlaws.
  • Farms are useless on this map as they do not grant any additional cash.

Trivia

  • There was an Easter egg on the second island where a Robloxian (namely Beefchoplets) could be seen frozen in ice.
  • Prior to the Overhaul Update, this was one of four maps to have an inclined path, with the others being Crossroads, Graveyard and Rocket Arena.
    • However, this map has the most noticeable incline.
