Description

The Soul Stealer is an enemy that only appears in Hardcore mode. It has a high amount of health, but walks quite slowly. Its main ability is to attack towers with its axe. It swings its axe at a random nearby tower, which spawns one Soul from it and increases its firerate by 150%.

Appearance

The Soul Stealer has glowing pink arms and its head is purple. It wears a black dominus with purple horns and is faceless. It wears diamond-plated black armor and pauldrons, with a pink gem on its chestplate, and purple gauntlets on both arms, both with a pink gem. Its torso, legs, and boots are granite purple. Purple particles are emitted from its boots and gauntlets, and pink particles are emitted from its arms.

It wields a black axe with a wrapped handle and a purple outline near its cutting edge.

Strategy

  • The Soul Stealer should not usually be too much of a problem.
    • However, be aware that they will usually spawn in pairs or threes, making them a little more difficult to deal with.
  • The Ranger can make light work of these enemies. The Commander is recommended to boost the firerate of the Ranger to try and defeat the Soul Stealer as quickly as possible.
    • While the Ranger is immune to stuns, it is not immune to the firerate debuff applied by the Soul Stealer.
  • High DPS towers, such as the Turret or Accelerator, can be great against the Soul Stealer.
    • The Turret can be especially useful against the Soul Stealer, as it is not affected by its firerate debuff and it does not spawn any Soul.
      • However, this is not the case for the XR500 skin. As it has a humanoid, it will spawn a Soul and receive the firerate debuff.
    • The Engineer can also be very useful, as the Soul Stealer cannot attack its sentries or damage them. It can however make it so it takes longer for Engineer to get enough scrap required to build a sentry.
  • Try not to place towers near the start of the path, or close to it, if you can.
    • This makes them a target for the Soul Stealer to spawn a Soul from and increase their firerate.
      • If any towers are hit by the Soul Stealer, the Commander can mitigate some of the effects.
  • The Military Base can be used against the Soul Stealer as its units cannot be attacked.
  • Any stalling tower can be used to slow the Soul Stealer down as it has no immunities.
    • Be aware that, due to its large size, it can only be stunned by the Warden and frozen by freezing towers for a shorter period of time compared to an average-sized enemy.

Trivia

  • The Soul Stealer was considered a major boss during Hardcore Testing BETA due to a bug.
  • Before the Entity System Update, if the Soul Stealer used its ability on a tower, the Soul spawned from the tower will be the "Tower's Soul" with the tower's name being the one that the Soul spawned from, instead of "Soul Stealer's Soul".
  • This, the Fallen Soul and the Frost Spirit are the only enemies that can increase the firerate of towers.
