―Inventory Description

Description

The Sledger is a melee ground tower, formerly unlocked by triumphing Outpost 32 as part of the Frost Invasion Event. During the Frost Invasion Event, the Sledger was purchasable via a limited time gamepass for Robux 500. Most recently, it was available through a limited time gamepass until 27th of August 2024 due to it receiving a Fallen skin. It had a cost of Robux 649.

The Sledger attacks enemies by bashing them with its hammer. This applies a chillness slowness effect, which stacks up to 80%. At Level 3+, when the slowness is higher than max slowness, it will freeze the enemy instead. Enemies immune to freeze cannot be frozen or slowed down, while larger enemies get frozen for a shorter amount of time than average sized enemies. At Level 4+, it deals double damage to frozen and chilled enemies, whether they are frozen/chilled from the Sledger or any other tower that inflicts these effects (like the Freezer). At Level 1, it also gains the ability to hit two enemies in a single swing, which increases with upgrades. The Sledger also gains lead detection at Level 2, though it does not have hidden or flying detection.

The Sledger is considered a viable mid-game tower due to its average cost and decent DPS. In later waves, its DPS is overshadowed by many other towers, but it makes up for this by having the ability to freeze enemies at Level 3+, as well as dealing double damage to frozen enemies at Level 4+. The Sledger pairs well with other Sledgers and the Commander.

The Sledger has a placement limit of six per player.

Strategy

  • Because of its short range and slow swingrate, the Sledger has trouble dealing with fast enemies, like the Glitch and Error.
    • The DJ Booth can help increase the range of the Sledger, but it will not be a significant buff compared to most other towers.
      • Unlike the Gladiator, the Sledger's increased range will allow it to hit enemies that are further away than normal due to its hitbox.
    • The Commander can decrease its swingrate.
  • The Sledger does not gain hidden detection at any level, meaning it cannot detect hidden enemies, such as the Shadow.
    • However, if another detectable enemy is in range and the Sledger is at Level 1+, then a hidden enemy may be indirectly hit by the Sledger.
      • The hidden enemy can also be frozen, so long as the Sledger is Level 3+.
    • A Level 4+ Ace Pilot near the Sledger will grant permanent hidden detection but it requires the Sledger to be in its secondary orange range.
  • The Sledger can slowdown enemies from Level 0 and freeze enemies at Level 3+, when the enemy slowdown is higher than the Sledger's max slowdown.
    • This makes it useful as a support tower, letting your towers deal more damage to enemies.
      • This is especially effective against hordes of slow enemies, like the Slow Boss.
    • The Sledger can be useful against fast high-health enemies like the Tank or the Amalgamation due to their fast speed getting negated by the Sledger's freeze and slowdown.
      • Be aware that enemies with freeze immunity cannot be frozen or slowed down, such as the Summoner Boss.
      • While boss enemies are immune to freeze by default, they are not immune to the chillness effect entirely unless they also have the freeze immunity. They can be slowed down, however, the effect will be much weaker than other enemies.
      • You can also use stunning towers like the Electroshocker and Warden to slow them down even further, though this is generally not necessary.
    • Be aware that enemies that are already frozen do not have their freeze times increased when hit by the Sledger.
  • At Level 4, the Sledger can deal double damage to frozen and chilled enemies, allowing it to deal high amounts of damage.
    • Due to this, the Sledger works very well with other freezing towers, along with other Sledgers nearby.
    • Combining the Sledger with the Commander will also allow it to hit frozen enemies several times in a short period of time, which can result in high amounts of damage being dealt in a short period of time.
    • While damage buffs can increase this damage, their effectiveness is halved on it. For example, a Level 4 Sledger will only deal 132 damage to frozen and chilled enemies instead of 144 when its damage is increased by 20%.
      • However, enemies that have freeze immunity cannot be frozen or chilled, meaning they are not able to take the extra damage from Sledger.
      • Bosses are not immune to being slowed down from chillness. This means that the Sledger can deal double damage to them, as long as they have chillness effect applied.
  • The Sledger has a small placement footprint, meaning that it can squeeze in beside other towers quite easily, if space is a problem.
  • It is best when the Sledger is placed near by corners because it maximizes its range.
    • Clumping Sledgers close together is a good method for maximizing damage output.
      • It is best to clump Sledgers near towers that deal high DPS, like the Accelerator (which also gives it time to charge up) and Ranger.
    • To slow the most enemies down for the longest period of time, it is best to spread out Sledgers.
  • Try not to place the Sledger on extremely high ground on maps like Space City as its hitbox will not be able to hit enemies on the path.
    • Uniquely, it can hit flying enemies, like the Balloon, from this position, although another detectable enemy must be in range. Even so, this is extremely rare and not viable.

Trivia

  • The Sledger shares its level 2 icon with the Archer's Level 3 icon.
  • The Sledger currently shares its upgrade icons with the Gladiator.
  • The Sledger is the third melee tower to be added to the game, with the others being the Gladiator, Slasher, Warden and Brawler.
  • When an enemy is hit by the Sledger, it will emit blood particles.
  • The sound that the Sledger makes when it hits an enemy is the same sound that the Vindicator makes when it hits a tower using its hammer.
  • The Level 4 and 5 upgrade names are references to the Frost Invasion Event.
    • The Level 4 upgrade name, Outpost 32 Research, is a reference to the Outpost 32, a research facility used as a map for the Frost Invasion Event.
    • The Level 5 upgrade name, Into The Frost Dimension, is a reference to the dimension enemies from the Frost Invasion Event came from.
