Description
The Slasher, formerly known as the Shredder, is a short-range ground tower that could have been unlocked by triumphing Nightmare Carnival as part of the Halloween 2019 Event. It could have also been bought through a limited time gamepass for 250 during Halloween 2019 Event. It can currently be bought for
749 for a limited time.
The Slasher attacks by slashing and stabbing enemies with its knife. Unlike the Gladiator, which is a multi-hit tower, the Slasher is a single target tower. However, the Slasher can deal critical damage for 2.5x damage every three swings at Level 0, with the multiplier increasing with upgrades.
At Level 2, it gains the ability to apply bleed to enemies. Each bleed applied will only deal damage to an enemy once before disappearing, with there also being a 1 second delay between each bleed damage. Additionally, it can only deal damage while bleed is not being applied. This bleed can stack up to 30 times, which will cause a bleed collapse, dealing increased damage to the enemy instantly, though also applying a short cooldown before bleed can be applied again. The damage dealt varies based on an enemy's max health and the Slasher's base bleed damage, EV (exponential value) and how many bleed stacks are removed at once. Because of this, when the enemy receives bleed damage from the enemy over time, it is calculated as:
While bleed is collapsing on an enemy, it is calculated as:
Damage from bleed is always rounded down, for both damage over time and from bleed collapse. Additionally, damage from bleed damage will not be displayed as the full damage dealt for the Slasher unless only one Slasher was applying bleed. Otherwise, damage displayed will be based on the number of bleed stacks applied by the selected Slasher. Damage from bleed is also affected by damage buffs, however, the way it affects it is unusual, as it is applied twice. First time is bleed damage, as it is multiplied by the damage buffs. However, this value is not actually rounded down. For example, with a 20% damage buff, bleed damage would be 2.4, which is not rounded down. The second time damage buff is applied is to the damage dealt. Damage is dealt is then multiplied by the same damage buff again, increasing it even further. Afterwards, the damage is rounded down.
The Slasher can be considered an all-round tower as its fairly cheap cost and good DPS can be effective in the early game, effective during the mid and late game due to its high DPS but at a higher cost, and its bleed effect that can affect every enemy, including major bosses.
The Slasher has a placement limit of 12 per player.

Strategy
- The Slasher can be quite effective at taking down single high health enemies, due to its high DPS.
- The Slasher can apply bleed to enemies, allowing it to deal even more damage to the enemy.
- However, these do not deal any damage while the Slasher is attacking the enemy unless max stack is reached, where it will explode.
- The amount of damage dealt is based on the enemy's max health, meaning that its effectiveness scales with the enemy's health.
- Placing down multiple Slashers can help by making them apply bleed faster, also making it explode faster.
- This is significantly better than going for Level 4 to apply bleed faster, as getting multiple Level 2 Slashers is significantly cheaper than a single Level 4 Slasher, while applying it quicker.
- The Commander can be quite useful, as it allows it to deal more DPS and makes it apply bleed faster.
- The DJ Booth and Mercenary Base, while not able to make it apply bleed faster, they can affect the bleed DPS significantly more due to how damage buffs interact with it.
- When the Slasher receives a damage buff, its bleed damage is boosted, though it is not rounded down (for example, 2 damage with a 50% damage buff becomes 3). Additionally, after the calculation for damage dealt is made, it is boosted by the damage buff again, making the effective boost to its bleed damage actually "Damage Buff Ć Damage Buff". In the case of the previously mentioned 50%, that would be an 125% damage buff.
- For example, against an enemy with 100 health and the Slasher with a 15% damage buff, its bleed damage will be increased from 2 to 2.3, increasing damage dealt from ~8.33738766941 to ~9.58799581982, which is then boosted again to ~11.0261951928, rounded down to 11, making it an 32.25% damage increase instead of 15%.
- The Slasher can handle earlier waves quite well, though it is a lot more expensive to upgrade and place down than other options.
- Stalling towers, such as the Cryomancer or Electroshocker, can be useful, as it makes enemies stay in the Slasher's range for longer, allowing for it to deal more DPS and apply more bleed.
- Be aware of the Slasher's short range. Placing this tower at corners of the path is crucial to get the most out of this tower.
- The Slasher has a small placement footprint meaning that it can squeeze in beside other towers quite easily, if space is a problem.
Trivia
- This is the second melee tower to be added to the game, with the first being the Gladiator.
- The Level 3 upgrade name "Swords Dance" is a reference to the PokƩmon move of the same name.
- The Slasher was loosely inspired by the Knifer from Tower Battles.
- The Slasher (when it was called the Shredder) used to have a Knife Throw ability before the Overhaul Update, which would make the Slasher throw a piercing knife.
- With the ability, the Slasher gained a 200% range buff, its swingrate was set to 0.7 and the ability cooldown was 25 seconds.
- It was meant to receive 500% more damage, but this was glitched and never occurred.
- The Knife Throw became a passive ability that the Slasher then gained at Level 2, though that was later removed in the Hexscape Update.
- With the ability, the Slasher gained a 200% range buff, its swingrate was set to 0.7 and the ability cooldown was 25 seconds.
- During one of the public testing sessions before the Overhaul Update, the Slasher was renamed from Shredder to Stabber. In the Overhaul Update, this was changed, and it was instead renamed from Shredder to Slasher.
- Prior to its release, the Slasher could have been called the Chainsawer instead of the Shredder, as at the time it was still planned to wield a chainsaw at all levels.
- This makes the Slasher the tower to receive the most name changes.
- Prior to its release, the Slasher could have been called the Chainsawer instead of the Shredder, as at the time it was still planned to wield a chainsaw at all levels.
- The Slasher went under massive changes before being released.
- Its original appearance was different. Instead of having black torso and pants it had light grey torso and grey pants.
- It would wield a chainsaw at all levels, instead of only the now removed Level 5 ā it would not wield knives at all.
- Its firerate would be much faster, likely similar to the firerate of towers like Minigunner. It would however, likely lose damage because of this.
- Instead of throwing knives, it would throw piercing saw glaives.
- When an enemy was hit by the Slasher's knife from its Knife Throw, it would emit blood particles.
- However, this did not occur with its normal attack, unlike multiple other melee towers.
