HISTORY |
Sentry has been removed from the game as of the 29th of October 2020.
Sentry may still exist in the game's code, though it is no longer officially used in-game. This page has been preserved for historical purposes.

- "Shoot up to x2 the firerate!"
- ―Store Description
Description
The Sentry was a tower with a unique spool-up mechanic. It could have been purchased for 3,650 from the store prior to the 24th of December 2019. Those who bought the Sentry can no longer use it, as it has been removed in the Overhaul Update.
When the Sentry locked onto a target, it would start to spool-up until its firerate was half its original firerate without the Firerate Bug, though due to the Firerate Bug this would not be the case. For example, at Level 5 the firerate was meant to be 0.2 minimum firerate and 0.1 maximum firerate, however due to the Firerate Bug they were increased to about 0.25 minimum firerate and 0.15 maximum firerate. The spool-up would be about 5 seconds. However, the Sentry had a noticeable delay when switching between targets, making it a very situational tower. It could shred through single targets, but was terrible against hordes, making it most effective against bosses.

Strategy
- To make better use of the Sentry's spool-up, consider changing its target to Strongest.
- However, be aware if two enemies have similar health to each other, the Sentry will continuously swap between attacking these two enemies. This will reduce the damage output of the Sentry due to the delay between switching targets.
- The same issue occurs with if targeting is set to First. The Sentry will swap targets if the initial target is overtaken. For this reason, the Sentry is fairly weak against the Necromancer.
- If the Sentry gets stunned by enemies, the spool-up will reset.
- You can place the Sentry further away from the path to reduce the chances of this happening.
- The Sentry fires faster as long as its target is within range.
- You can extend the time an enemy is in range with a Pyromancer, Freezer and Electroshocker, so long the specific enemy is not immune to their effects.
- The Sentry will have difficulty attacking fast enemies, such as the Error, without a supporting tower.
- This is due to the delay when switching between targets.
- The Sentry is most effective against the major bosses due to their high health and slow speed.
- Be aware that most major bosses will be able to stun the Sentry, resetting the spool-up. The boss may also spawn enemies, which will distract the Sentry away from the boss.
- You can set the Sentry's targeting to Strongest to prevent this.

- The Commander is recommended with the Sentry as it reduces spool-up time as well as minimum firerate.
Trivia
- The Sentry made a small beep when its target moved out of range or was killed.
- The Sentry also made the same sound when stunned.
- The Sentry was loosely based on a multitude of games including Risk of Rain 2 and Team Fortress 2.
- The Sentry design was based on Team Fortress 2's Sentry Gun.
- The Sentry was the first tower to rely on RNG for an upgrade.
- The Sentry used to have a 30% chance to receive a teddy bear at Level 5, which gave it hidden detection. After 5 August 2019, however, this did not affect anything statistics-wise as the Sentry could now always detect hidden enemies at Level 5.
- The Teddy Bear on top of the Sentry was the Teddy Bloxpin from the Roblox catalog.
- Prior to the MEGA Update, the Sentry was the only tower to have its default targeting set to Strongest.
- After the update, the Sentry had the default target setting of First, similar to other towers.
- This was the only tower to make use of the spool-up mechanic.
- This was the first tower to have the lock-on mechanic, in which it would target the enemy it first attacked until it was dead or moved out of range, even if other enemies overtook it or had more health than it.
- This was removed in the MEGA Update.
- This was the first tower to have the lock-on mechanic, in which it would target the enemy it first attacked until it was dead or moved out of range, even if other enemies overtook it or had more health than it.
- The Sentry was likely made unobtainable, and later removed, most likely due to the multitude of bugs the Sentry encountered.
- There was a firerate issue with the Sentry where its minimum firerate was not half of the maximum firerate.
- This issue was resolved with a Commander as the minimum firerate is as expected, with firerate buff applied.
- The lock-on mechanic does not work. For this reason, the Sentry constantly changes targets whenever another suitable enemy enters its range.
- The displayed firerate for this tower was a leading decimal when spooling-up. Even at minimum firerate, the number displayed was a leading decimal and was not a terminating decimal.
- There was a firerate issue with the Sentry where its minimum firerate was not half of the maximum firerate.
- Only people who bought the Sentry prior to the 24th of December 2019 could use it up until its removal.
- However, as of the Overhaul Update, the people who bought the Sentry can no longer use it.
- The Sentry is featured in the Portable Sentry accessory, which comes from the Roblox Core Pack - Tower Defense Simulator, despite its removal from the game.
