Description

The Rocketeer, formerly known as the Rocketer, is an intermediate ground tower which deals splash damage. It is purchasable in the store for Coin 2,500.

The Rocketeer is a splash damage tower that deals very high damage to enemies within an explosion radius. It however, has a rather slow firerate. While intended to have no damage drop-off, this is not the case due to bugs. The explosion is instead separated into two spheres, enemies within the inner sphere will be dealt 100% of the stated damage, while the damage from the outer sphere is decreased linearly. Additionally, similarly to other splash damage towers, it is also able to damage Lead enemies and bypass defense. It has decent range, and can detect Hidden enemies at later levels. These aforementioned attributes allow it to be very effective against hordes of enemies.

The Rocketeer has two range rings; the white range ring, which is its attack range; and a red range ring, which is its deadzone range. Enemies within the deadzone range will not be targeted by the Rocketeer, potentially limiting the Rocketeer's general flexibility. At Level 4, it will gain a quad missile launcher, allowing it to fire four missiles at once, targeting up to four different enemies at a time in its spread angle, at the cost of reduced missile accuracy. If there are less than four enemies in the spread angle, the missiles will target an enemy already targeted by other missiles. Due to it firing four, less accurate missiles at once, it will often not deal full its potential damage, making it rather inconsistent.

The Rocketeer is mostly considered a mid-to late-game tower due to its relatively high cost, as well as its ability to take down hordes of strong enemies with its high damage.

The Rocketeer has a placement limit of eight per player.

Strategy

  • The Rocketeer should not be used as an early game tower because of its high cost. If you wish to have crowd control damage during the early game, towers such as the Shotgunner, Pyromancer or Electroshocker are far better choices.
  • While it is still important to keep in mind that the Rocketeer has a deadzone range, it is usually pretty negligible due to it not being quite large and the Rocketeer possessing a far greater outer attack range.
  • While the Rocketeer does have better DPS from its main projectile, the Mortar can often deal higher DPS due to its clusters when facing off against large hordes, which have a far greater reach than Rocketeer's missiles, even if they are unlikely to all deal full damage.
    • In contrast, the Rocketeer can be far more ideal against single enemies in comparison to the Mortar at earlier levels, but it is important to note that at Level 4, the Rocketeer will begin firing out four rockets at once. While against hordes, they will all deal full damage to at least one enemy, against singular enemies most often one missile will not deal its full damage, reducing its general DPS against single enemies.
  • Due to its high DPS and hidden detection, the Rocketeer can reliably take down high health Hidden enemies such as the Shadow Boss.
    • An explosion may also indirectly damage a Hidden enemy on Levels 0-1 if there are other detectable enemies nearby.
  • The Rocketeer can be very useful when paired with the Firework Technician, as the fireworks generated by the tower can assist in Rocketeer's crowd control potential.
    • This is especially true at Level 4, where it will begin to fire four missiles at once, with each one having a decent chance to generate fireworks, resulting in higher overall odds for the Rocketeer to generate fireworks.
  • Due to its high splash DPS bypassing defense and with great area coverage from its large range, the Rocketeer may also be quite helpful against high health targets and bosses such as the Fallen King, which can gain up to 60% defense.

Trivia

  • Prior to the MEGA Update, this was called the Rocketer.
    • Rocketeer is the more universally-recognized correct spelling and, as such, was changed.
  • Originally, the Rocketeer gained a Howitzer artillery cannon at the final Level instead of a quad missile launcher.
    • The quad missile launcher was the originally planned weapon that the Rocketeer would use at the final Level, though this never happened until January of 2025.
  • The Rocketeer was loosely based on the Tuber from Tower Battles.
  • The Rocketeer is one of five towers that have more than one range ring, with the others being the Engineer, Ranger, Necromancer and Ace Pilot.
