Description

Polluted Wasteland was a night-time map that had recently been through a nuclear disaster. On Fallen and Golden modes, some of the enemies were replaced with nuclear variants. This map had a normal wave structure on other gamemodes.

Design & Path

Polluted Wasteland took place at an abandoned nuclear power plant that appears to have been damaged. Several cooling towers, cooling units, storage tanks and nuclear reactors could be seen, with many appearing damaged or overflowing with radioactivity. A power station could also be seen here, with power lines coming from the power station. Several metal fences surrounded the structures on this map. Several dead trees were planted around the map. Slight hills could also be seen around the map.
The brown pebble path was rather complicated on this map. The path started and ended at two caves, but the route taken to get to the end was rather long and convoluted. The path went around the first corner and took the long straight to the first figure of eight. It took the left circle, down the bisector path onto the right circle. The route went back onto the main path and took the right circle, down the bisector path, then took the left circle then back onto the main path to proceed to the end.

Wave Structure Changes

Normal and Molten modes had their usual wave structure.

Golden mode was similar to the regular Golden modes, except some of the enemies were changed. The wave structure was the same to normal Golden mode apart from the following changes:

Fallen mode was similar to the regular Fallen mode, except some of the enemies were changed. The wave structure was the same to normal Fallen mode apart from the following changes:

Strategy

  • Since the path passes through the middle several times, it is suggested to place towers near it.
  • The Ace Pilot and Pursuit are useful on this map as the path loops in circles.
    • However, be aware that the enemies in Fallen mode, particularly the Circuit, may prevent them from reaching their full potential, due to their high speed.
  • The Military Base is extremely useful on this map due to the long path, as well as the compact nature of the path.
    • For this reason, the Crook Boss is also quite useful on this map because of the Crook and Mafia it spawns at Levels 4-5, respectively.
  • There are some cliff spaces on the nuclear cooling units and cliffs. A Ranger paired with a DJ Booth covers most of the map.
  • Due to the path structure, the Pyromancer is very useful with clearing out early game enemies with the speed-up being less of an issue due to the long path.

Trivia

  • Polluted Wasteland was the first map to have a curved path.
    • This was also the second map to not have 90-degree corners, after Chess Board.
  • This was the third map to have paths intersect without being a two-pathed map, with the first two being Crossroads and Rocket Arena.
    • Unlike the other two, this map had several cross-over points.
  • Coincidentally, this map was added on the 29th of April 2020, three days after the 34th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster which occurred on the 26th of April 1986.
  • This map was originally meant to take place during the day, but was changed to taking place during the night.
  • There was an Easter egg behind the power station, with text being engraved into the building reading "Sweet was here".
    • This is likely referencing to SweetHiddenLove, a map maker for Tower Defense Simulator.
  • Polluted Wasteland had the longest path length in the game.
