Nightmare Carnival has been removed from the game as of the 16th of May 2021.
This page has been preserved for historical purposes.

Description

Nightmare Carnival was once a normal map in rotation, but it was an event map during the Halloween 2019 Event. It has since been removed in all context.

Like other event maps, Nightmare Carnival had a specialized wave structure with special enemies. Upon triumphing in the event version, players were rewarded with the Shredder. The reward on this map was the same as Fallen mode rewards at the time up to Wave 20.

In the event version of Nightmare Carnival, players started off with Cash (Gameplay Currency)$750 (or Cash (Gameplay Currency)$850 if players were in the community group). You could only play this map if you were Level 10+. Upon triumph, you received Coin 360 and Experience 50 EXP. Additionally, during the event, shared cash was 50%.

After the Halloween 2019 Event had ended, the players were not able to get special reward for triumphing this map.

Design & Path

The second version of Nightmare Carnival was a night-time map that took place in mountainous terrain, though poisoned water surrounded part of the map. Various circus tents, haybales, dead trees, lanterns and pumpkins could be seen around the map. Various buildings could also be seen. A rollercoaster, drop tower and ferris wheel could be seen on this map. A spider was seen by the gate.
The second version of Nightmare Carnival was a two-pathed map, so enemies alternated between the spawn points. The two paths started at two separate caves. One path passed underneath an archway and through the gate. Both paths crossed two wooden bridges over a murky pond and intersected just after the bridges. The path then crossed over two wooden bridges before reaching the end.

The first version of Nightmare Carnival (the same one used for the Halloween 2019 Event) had Halloween themes spread throughout the map. It was a night-time map though the map itself was brightly illuminated by the attractions. It appeared to take place in a graveyard with a visiting circus. Many background houses, caves and gates were spread throughout the map. There was a drop tower ride, which was animated, with circus tents around the map. Pumpkins, windmills, lantern lights and banners could be seen throughout the map.
The path began and ended at two caves. The path itself was quite long, revolving around a large hill, then revolving around the drop tower, running nearly parallel to the fourth straight at one point before twisting around to the end.

Event Rewards

The game calculated how much Coin Coins and Experience EXP you receive based on how many waves you survived and if you won a match.

Any rewards that end in a decimal point were rounded down, no matter the first figure of the leading decimal.

The rewards during the event were calculated as:

Coins Reward EXP Reward
Coin 18 × Wave Waves Completed × Experience 2.5 EXP

Badges

There were also a few badges which you could obtain when playing this map during the event, which may have additional rewards alongside the badge. These were:

Halloween 2019
✖ UNOBTAINABLE
HalloweenBadge Congrats on defeating Jack O' Bot!

Rewards:
Shredder

Triumph Nightmare Carnival
✖ UNOBTAINABLE
NCBadge No description available

Event Wave Structure

Note that this only applies when the map was part of the Halloween 2019 Event. The wave structure when it was re-added as a regular map is the same one found on the Waves page.

In Nightmare Carnival during the event, the formula for calculating wave bonus on each wave was:

(Cash (Gameplay Currency)$70 - 7 × (Players - 1)) × Waves Completed

The waves in Nightmare Carnival also followed these timings:

Waves Wave Timer Skip Time[1]
1-19 1:00 0:20[2]
20 11111111:05 N/A

Bolded names indicates an enemy type's debut.

Strategy

  • There are very few ideal cliff spots on this map.
    • The few suitable cliff towers are rather spaced out, making it hard to boost all cliff towers with only one support tower, like the Commander.
  • Ground towers can be placed near the circus tents as they can hit enemies on both paths from here.
  • Towers with long range, like the Turret, are highly recommended on this map.
    • The DJ Booth can help increase the range of towers.
  • Remember that, if you use the Military Base, only one unit will spawn from it, which will go down a random path. The same thing applies to the Crook Boss's body guards.

Trivia

  • Prior to Nightmare Carnival being officially added, a picture of the map was seen in the lobby.
    • However, there was no event elevator until the 18th of October 2019.
  • This was the second event map to be re-added as a regular map, with the first being The Heights from the SFOTH Event.
  • Like every other two-pathed map, all enemies (including major bosses) used to spawn twice prior to the Frost Update. Enemies then alternated in spawn points between the paths after the Frost Update.
    • Both Nightmare Carnival and Candy Valley were the only two-pathed maps with a rating of Hard instead of Insane.
  • A statue of the Reaper could be seen on one of the cliffs in the second version of this map.
  • Act II of the Lunar Overture Event is a retelling of the events that happened in the Halloween 2019 Event on this map, with a lot of enemies from this map being remade for the event. The first form of The Haunted Past also resembled this map.
