Description

The Necromancer is a hardcore spawner tower that can be unlocked in the store for Gem 2,250 and has a level requirement of Level 50. It could have also been obtained through a gamepass for Robux 1,500.

The Necromancer fires magic bolts at enemies, which at Level 1 can pierce two enemies, hitting three enemies. At Level 4, these are replaced by beams fired from its book, which are not projectiles. These beams deal damage based on the number of enemies targeted. For example, if it only targets one enemy, it will deal 20 damage, 40 damage when targeting two enemies, and 60 damage when targeting three enemies. The Necromancer also has a soul meter of 50, which it fills up by damaging enemies. When the soul meter is full, the Necromancer will summon gravestones. The Necromancer can destroy these gravestones using its Raise the Dead ability. The Necromancer will summon gravestones until it reaches the limit at that level. At Level 3, the Necromancer can now upgrade gravestones. After dealing enough damage it will upgrade the gravestones, regardless of whether they are currently placed down or not. Upgraded gravestones summon stronger units. At Level 4, these gravestones can also deal damage when destroyed.

The units spawned depend on the Level of the tower and the gravestone. At Level 0, Level 1 gravestones can only spawn Skeletons, at Level 2, Level 1 gravestones gain the ability to summon Sword Skeletons. At Level 3, gravestones can be upgraded to Level 2, where they spawn Skeletons, Skeleton Knights and Giant Skeletons. At Level 4, gravestones can be upgraded to Level 3, where they spawn Skeleton Knights, Hallow Guards and Executioner Skeletons. The units that spawn from gravestones are random, though once the gravestones are at their final Level and they are all placed down, the summoned units will always be the same, based on the limits set for them at a specific Necromancer level.

The Necromancer has a placement limit of three per player.

Strategy

  • Placement is important for the Necromancer, because of its projectile and the way it spawns gravestones.
    • The Necromancer should be placed at the ends of a straight path or around corners to maximize its pierce.
      • At Level 4, the Necromancer no longer fires projectiles and instead targets enemies using beams, making placement less important in this regard.
    • The Necromancer needs to be placed next to the path so that it can summon gravestones, so you might not be able to utilize the most of its range.
  • The Necromancer stops attacking while summoning gravestones, making it unable to attack for a while.
    • This does not happen when the Necromancer upgrades gravestones.
    • This makes it unable to defend by itself, as hordes of fast enemies like the Glitch or Fallen could get out of its range fairly easily. Thus, bringing in reliable towers like the Minigunner will help avoid this issue.
  • At Level 1, the Necromancer gains the ability to pierce enemies, allowing it to be used against crowds of enemies.
    • Do be aware that the projectile can miss, meaning it cannot fill the soul meter. The Necromancer should be set to strongest to avoid missing projectiles, higher health enemies are typically slower.
    • At Level 4, it fires beams instead of projectiles, making it significantly more effective against crowds of enemies.
  • The Necromancer's Raise the Dead ability can be used to summon various skeletons, which get quite powerful at later levels.
    • It is recommended to wait until gravestones are at their higher level so that it spawns its strongest units.
    • The units that spawn have determined limits, meaning that once the maximum amount of gravestones are upgraded to their final level, the summoned units will be the same every single time. If the gravestones are not fully upgraded, the summons will still be random.
    • At Level 4, the Level 3 gravestones explode when you activate the ability, which can make them useful as traps to take down groups of weaker enemies and chip the health down of stronger ones.
  • Units spawned by the Necromancer, especially at higher levels, have high health, making them useful against crowds of enemies.
    • The Executioner Skeleton's axe also deals piercing damage, rapidly dealing damage to any enemy caught by it, though its high firerate and the far distance that its axe travels make it quite inconsistent.
  • The Necromancer has flying detection at Level 0, which can make it fairly useful against flying enemies, and while it does not have hidden detection until Level 2, some of its units can detect Hidden enemies and all of them can deal damage to them, making it still useful against Hidden enemies before being upgraded to Level 2.
    • Do note that the angle that the Necromancer fires its projectiles at can lead to them not being able to utilize their pierce.
    • You should not solely rely on the Necromancer for these two traits alone, however, as the Necromancer is a rather expensive way to counter these types of enemies and there are better and cheaper alternatives such as Ace Pilot, Militant or Golden Scout.
    • That being said, the Necromancer's pierce and high damage makes it great against hordes of Hiddens and Balloons, only slightly compounded by its slow firerate. At Level 4, it can do quite well against groups of Hidden Bosses along with supplementary damage with its ability.
    • The Necromancer is, however, useless against Lead Balloons because it cannot damage lead enemies.
  • The Necromancer is quite expensive to upgrade to Level 3 and 4. Because of this, towers like the Farm or Cowboy are recommended to afford them more easily.
    • The DJ Booth can also be helpful at reducing its upgrade costs.
  • As its units provide it with a huge increase in DPS, having support towers that make upgrading gravestones faster is recommended with this tower.
  • The Necromancer's skeletons can be effective against Leads and Lead Bosses because they can damage them through collision and have a good amount of health to eliminate multiple of them, though their main attacks cannot damage them.
  • The Necromancer can pair up well with the Mercenary Base, because its Field Medics can heal multiple skeletons. This is particularly useful for the Executioner Skeleton as its primary attack is ranged.
    • Additionally, its damage buff can be useful at boosting the Necromancer's damage, increasing its DPS and making it build graves faster.

Trivia

  • The Necromancer was the first non-hardcore tower to be obtainable for Gem Gems.
  • Originally, the Necromancer was planned to be only available every Halloween, though during the Lunar Overture Event, it was on sale until 2nd of December 2023.
    • However, due to a bug, it returned on 21st of December 2023 and was present in the store since. An update on the 15th of January 2025 made the Necromancer a hardcore tower, now officially making it a permanent rather than a bug.
    • Because of this, the Necromancer was considered an event tower and put in the Exclusive category.
  • The Necromancer's beam attack at Level 4 shares a resemblance to the Plasma Trooper's beam attack from Tower Battles, as they both can attack more than one unit and use beams to target an enemy. There is a visual resemblance as well.
  • The original Necromancer Level 4 upgrade name is a reference to the Darkhold from the Marvel Comics.
  • The Necromancer was planned to be the final reward for the Lunar Overture Season Pass but was later changed to only be obtainable via purchasing with gems on the shop, as BelowNatural stated it would have been "too easy" to obtain it from the Season Pass.
  • The Necromancer was originally meant to deal splash damage, but this was changed to pierce for unknown reasons.

Notes

  1. ā†‘ At Level 0, the projectile fired by the Necromancer can indirectly hit a hidden enemy. Additionally, the Skeletons it spawns can collide with hidden enemies.
  2. ā†‘ DPS assumes only one enemy is hit and does not include unit DPS.
For Level 4, DPS assumes all beams hit the same enemy and does not include unit DPS.
  3. ā†‘ DPS does not include collision damage and assumes only one enemy is hit by an unit.
For the Executioner Skeleton, DPS is calculated as (Damage Ć· Tick) Ć· Firerate.
