Description
The Mystery is a somewhat fast, yet weak, enemy that spawns another enemy upon its death. The enemy spawned depends on the mode and wave. This can make Mystery an incredibly dangerous enemy, especially if you only have weak defense.
This appears in every single mode, but has variable health depending on the difficulty you are playing on. They also appeared in The Heights during the SFOTH Event.
The Mystery can be spawned by the Mystery Summoner, Summoner Boss, Necromancer Boss, Void Reaver and Grave Digger.
Appearance
The current version of the Mystery is similar to the third version, except it is faceless and green question marks are emitted from its torso when it is killed.
The current Enemies Beta modifier version of the Mystery has green skin, with its torso and legs being a slightly darker shade of green. It also has a yellow question mark on its chest.
The third version of the Mystery was green and translucent, with a glowing orange question mark on its torso. The Mystery had a drooling zombie face.
The second version of the Mystery was green and translucent, with an orange question mark on its torso. The Mystery had a drooling zombie face.
The first version of the Mystery was blue and translucent, with an orange question mark on its torso. The Mystery had a drooling zombie face.

Strategy
- Be prepared to deal with the zombies that spawn from the Mystery, especially hidden enemies, like Hiddens, if your hidden defense is not up to scratch.
- High health enemies, like the Normal Boss and Abnormal Boss, can also pose a threat, though you should have sufficient towers to deal with a few of them.
- Splash damage towers, like the Demoman and the Rocketeer, can help to defeat the hordes of Mysteries that come.
- The Tank or Railgun Tank from the Military Base can defeat hordes of Mysteries and their spawned enemies because of their high health and high splash damage.
- The Freezer, Frost Blaster, Sledger, Toxic Gunner and Electroshocker can slow down hordes of Mysteries.
- If there are some Mysteries at the end of the map, do not kill them as they may turn into high health enemies, like Normal Bosses, severely reducing your base health.
- The Gladiator can hit the Mystery and the enemy that they spawn if you are lucky enough.
- The enemies that spawn from the Mystery do not need to be killed for wave progression to occur.
- If you are speedrunning a map, you should focus on killing the Mysteries first by setting your towers' targetting to Weakest before moving onto the enemies that spawn.
- Be aware that if you get a lot of high health enemies, like the Normal Boss, they may outrun your towers if you do not have enough DPS.
- If you are speedrunning a map, you should focus on killing the Mysteries first by setting your towers' targetting to Weakest before moving onto the enemies that spawn.
- In Hardcore mode, the Mystery may spawn enemies in large numbers that you may not be prepared for.
- After wave 40, it can spawn Lead Balloons which can only be damaged by very few towers, like a Level 3+ Ranger.
- After wave 46, it can spawn Souls which cannot collide with units. If you are not careful enough with your hidden defense, it may sneak past.
- Be aware that you do not earn any cash from damaging enemies that the Mystery spawns in every mode, except Hardcore mode.
- A Level 4 Pyromancer can easily kill hordes of Mysteries, alongside killing weaker enemies like Abnormal or Slow.
- It can also reduce the defense from enemies like Hefty or Abnormal Boss.
- Later on during the game, a Level 5 Pyromancer can do this more effectively, being able to kill the Mysteries and most enemies that spawn from it.
- However, a Level 4 Golden Pyromancer can easily kill the Mysteries along with most of the enemies it spawns.
Trivia
- The appearance of the Mystery was originally based on the Mystery from Tower Battles.
- When the Super Mystery, Ultra Mystery and Uber Mystery were in the game, the Mystery was the only mystery enemy not to have glowing eyes.
- The Mystery, alongside the Mystery Boss, are currently the only enemies to spawn in every mode.
- However, the Mystery appeared in the SFOTH Event, making it have the most gamemode appearances in the game.
- They are also the only enemies that change their statistics depending on wave or mode, not including MEGA Scaling or Eggy Island enemies.
- However, some major bosses can have different enemies that they can summon depending on the mode.
- Prior to the Overhaul Update, in regular Fallen mode, the Mystery could spawn the Rusher, even though it is a Polluted Wasteland enemy and did not appear naturally in regular Fallen mode.
- The Mystery and Mystery Boss can learn to spawn new enemies even before its first wave appearance.
- The question mark on the Mystery is a re-textured version of the Question Mark accessory from the Roblox catalog.
- Prior to the Entity System Update, Mysteries summoned from the Summoner Boss could be stuck in the air.
