Description
The Mortar is an advanced cliff tower with a long range that can be unlocked by reaching Level 75 or purchased via a gamepass for 395. When the player reaches Level 75, the Mortar can be claimed by using the pop up message that appears when joining the lobby or through rewards.
The Mortar is a cliff tower that shoots rather slowly but deals high damage over a large explosion radius. It has a long range, but as the Mortar shoots at a target farther away, the shells take longer to reach their target. These shells will generally land behind the targeted enemy. The explosion it produces is separated into two spheres; enemies in the inner sphere will be dealt 100% of the stated damage, while the damage in the outer sphere decreases linearly. At Level 4, when the Mortar's shells explode, they will drop three cluster bombs, which will create additional explosions when they hit the ground. These will land around the main explosion, meaning they are very unlikely to all hit and deal full damage to the targeted enemy. By default, the Mortar can damage Lead, as well as target all non-hidden flying enemies. The Mortar is immune to all stuns by default.
The Mortar is considered an all-round tower due to its relatively cheap placement cost, expensive upgrade prices, and the ability to effectively deal with hoards of enemies throughout the game due to its large crowd control capabilities and high damage output.
The Mortar has a placement limit of five per player.

Strategy
- The Mortar is essentially a cliff-based Rocketeer. However, the Mortar deals less single target damage without its cluster bombs (which are very unlikely to all deal full damage to the enemy) while having a significantly larger explosion. This makes the Mortar a better option against hordes.
- In most cases, the Mortar's shells will land behind an enemy.
- This can be useful for hordes of enemies, as the Mortar's shells will land closer to the middle of the hordes instead of landing at the front. This allows its explosions to hit more enemies.
- However, this makes the Mortar somewhat weaker against single targets. As explosions will land behind an enemy, the enemy will be further away from the center of the explosion, which can reduce the amount of damage it receives.
- This is usually negligible for slow enemies, but for much faster ones like the Fallen Rusher, the Mortar's DPS may be reduced drastically.
- At Level 4, the Mortar's shells drop cluster bombs when they explode. These cluster bombs will also explode when they hit the ground.
- However, do note that these should not be relied on, as the cluster bombs are very inaccurate and create a smaller explosion than the shells.
- 2-5 Level 5 Mortars can be efficient with taking out hordes of Breaker4s due to it being able to kill it in a single hit and its cluster bombs killing the Breaker3s that spawn.
- Compared to the Ranger and Sniper, the Mortar has a significantly smaller range, lacking in range when cliff spots are far enough from the path.
- The DJ Booth can aid with this by boosting its range.
- The Commander can help remedy the Mortar's slow firerate.
- This tower has surprisingly good DPS for a splash damage tower, so it will also be able to help with major bosses like the Fallen King.
- Additionally, it can easily take care of their summons with its explosions.
- The Mortar cannot detect Hidden enemies. You will have to use other towers for an effective Hidden defense.
- In most gamemodes, Hidden enemies are usually close to other enemies, so the Mortar can indirectly hit them with its large explosion radius.
- Towers like the Ace Pilot or Firework Technician can give hidden detection but must be close to the Mortar in order to do so.
- Large clumped groups that appear from Breaker4 can be better targeted by setting Mortar to Random.
- This tower completely ignores defense, dealing full damage to the enemy. Because of this, it can be useful against hordes of enemies with defense, like Hazards, Reaver or Fallen Giant.
- In Hardcore mode, the Mortar can be used to kill hordes of Lead enemies.
- The Mortar can be an effective tower in certain maps where you can stack the Mortar to maximize the cliff spaces and free up more space for other cliff towers like the Ranger.
Trivia
- Outside of sales, the Mortar is a Level 75 tower with a gamepass cost of
394, lower in Robux compared to the Turret which is a Level 50 tower with a gamepass cost of
450.
- The Mortar is loosely based on the Mortar from Tower Battles and the Mortar Monkey from the Bloons Tower Defense series.
- When the Mortar was first released, it would have been affected by shockwaves created by bosses from their Stomp abilities. This would later be fixed the same day.
- This glitch would later return in the Overhaul Update, though it only applied to the Grave Digger's Stomp. This was later fixed in the Entity System Update.
- The Mortar shares its Level 4 icon with the Ace Pilot's Level 2 icon, but rotated.
- This would later be fixed in the Solar Eclipse update, though only for the Robux Shop. Its cost would be fixed in the inventory in the Violent Night Update.
- The Mortar has a unique explosion at Level 5. It will create a nuclear explosion, instead of the usual explosion most other splash towers use.
- Unlike the game, dropping a shell in real life will simultaneously fire the mortar. In the game, Mortar drops a shell in, and when an enemy comes close, it fires.
- The Mortar's default skin in the lobby uses its Hardcore Testing BETA appearance with its face changed, instead of its current appearance.
