Commander dialogue on Wave 35 (Molten)

Description

The Molten Warlord is a major boss that appears on Wave 35 of Molten mode as the final boss.

Like most other major bosses, the Molten Warlord moves very slowly, but it possesses an extremely high amount of health.

Its first ability is Infernal Impact, where the Molten Warlord slams its weapon into the ground, creating three shockwaves in a straight line that stun every tower hit for 4 seconds and deal 200 damage to any unit caught in them. Its second ability, Volcanic Vehemence, makes it slam its weapon three times, creating three shockwaves around it that stun towers for 4 seconds and deal 1,000 damage to units. Its third ability, From the Ashes, has the Molten Warlord breathe out fire, temporarily gaining Aggro, healing itself by at least 10,000. The amount healed is never exactly 10,000 and is generally higher, such as 10,666, though it does not appear to go past 11,000 total health healed. Afterwards, it will summon six enemies, which can be the Molten Hound and Molten Golem, each with a 50% chance to be summoned. Additionally, each one has a 50% chance to spawn with Bloated. Its fourth ability is Burning Jealousy, where the Molten Warlord fires out a purple orb at towers, which applies a 50% firerate debuff to them for 10 seconds an deal 250 damage to any unit caught in it. Its fifth ability is Unchained Pandemonium, which happens when it reaches half health. The Molten Warlord will remove its mask, which makes it temporarily gain the Tank attribute. Then it will immediately perform the From the Ashes and Blistering Barrage abilities. After entering rage mode, it can now use its sixth ability, Blistering Barrage. This ability makes it summon 20 meteors that fall down from the sky, stunning towers for three seconds and dealing 100 damage to units.

Appearance

The Molten Warlord appears as a glowing orange lava shaped into that of a humanoid figure. Its armor is made out of metal and molten rock, though the molten rocks mainly appear as random rocks scattered around its body, rather than as an actual piece of armor. Its metal armor consists of leggings, which have lava dripping from the footwear, grey gloves, small pieces of metal attached to its arms and a chestplate with a sun-like symbol engraved into it. On its head, it wears a grey skull mask and a small head piece. It has two horns on its head which are impaled with nails. It wields two weapons in its arms, a large grey hammer in its left hand and a large brown pickaxe in its right hand.

Upon using the Unchained Pandemonium ability, the Molten Warlord removes its mask, revealing its menacing orange eyes.

Strategy

  • Towers such as the Accelerator, Ranger, Turret, Golden Minigunner and Engineer, are recommended against the Molten Warlord for their high damage output.
    • As these are all highly expensive towers, it is recommended to have a DJ Booth set to the Green track.
      • The DJ Booth can give a reduced discount on the Red and Purple tracks at Level 5, which boost Damage and Range respectively.
    • It is effective to chain the Commander's Call to Arms ability to maximize damage output.
    • As the Molten Warlord has lower health than most other bosses, multiple Brawlers and Wardens can kill it fairly quickly.
  • You can use the Medic to cleanse any towers stunned by the Molten Warlord.
    • As the Medic is immune to stuns, you can safely employ this tower in large groups.
  • Because of its Unchained Pandemonium ability, it becomes a substantially harder enemy to defeat after it uses this ability.
    • This makes using Call to Arms or other tower-buffing items like consumables likely a waste, as they do not impact or remove the Tank or Aggro attributes. However, these are both temporary and so should not make a huge impact.
  • You can have a single cheap tower away from the main defense to bait the Molten Warlord into stunning it instead of the important towers.
  • You could use the Nuke to massively reduce its health as well as clear the map of other enemies.
    • Do note that the Molten Warlord is immune to the Nuke's fallout damage, which somewhat reduces its effectiveness.
