Description

The Grave Digger is the final boss for Casual mode. It also appeared in The Classic Event. The Grave Digger has Stun Immunity, reducing the effectiveness of the stun from stunning towers like the Electroshocker and Warden, while also preventing it from being knocked back. As it is a Boss enemy, it is also immune to being frozen by freezing towers, slowed down by the Toxic Gunner, confused by the Jester, damaged from the Nuke's fallout and slowed down by the DJ Booth.

It has very high health compared to anything that spawns before, but to compensate, it moves very slowly. In addition, it can stun towers and damage units by performing its Stomp or Grave Digging abilities, both having different stun duration and damage values. It can also perform its Triumphing Sheol ability which spawns multiple enemies. These enemies all have different odds of spawning and start a delay before another enemy be spawned.

The Grave Digger was replaced by the Toilet Boss in Headache Headquarters.

Appearance

The Grave Digger is a hulking humanoid with a waist, lower arms and lower legs in its rig. It has a desaturated light green skin color and has grey legs. It wears a ragged grey cloak with a hood, sleeves and coattails, which has white accents and patches of cloth sewn on. It has tan bandages wrapped on its legs and lower arms, which have green fluid stains on them. It wears black boots with brown laces, white pauldrons with grey edges, and two brown belts with white buckles, with one on the torso and one on the waist. It has a light grey tombstone with a crown shape at the top chained to its back. It has an angry face with glowing red eyes, sharp teeth and stitches at the sides of its mouth. It wields a shovel with a dark brown wooden handle and a light grey metal spade and end.

For its Triumphing Sheol ability, it will point its shovel skyward, where lightning will then continuously strike on it until the ability ends. For its Stomp ability, it stomps its right foot, creating a white shockwave and a small crater in the ground. For its Grave Digging ability, it digs its shovel into the ground, and brings it back up, which flings cubes of brown dirt at towers.

It has a death animation where it will place its shovel on the ground to act like a cane, before trembling, dropping the shovel and falling to its knees and hands. It then outstretches its right hand before falling face first onto the ground. Due to a bug, the Grave Digger's corpse despawns before the death animation finishes, and can only fully be viewed with Time Scale set to a higher setting.

The first version of the Grave Digger was a very large humanoid with a desaturated green skin color. It wore a ragged black cloak with a cape, hood and sleeves and had granite dark green legs. It had a glowing red eyes, had white bandages wrapped around its arms and legs and wore grey diamond plate boots. It had a light grey tombstone chained to its back and had brown belts with grey buckles on its torso. It wielded a large shovel with a brown wooden handle and a grey metal spade and cap.

For its Triumphing Sheol ability, it will dig its shovel into the ground repeatedly. For its Stomp ability, it would stomp its right foot into the ground, creating a white shockwave. On death, it slowly fell on its back whilst dropping its shovel and emitting a low groaning sound.

Enemies Spawned

  • Hazmat
    • 20% chance of being spawned.
    • 0.15 second delay before another enemy can be spawned.
  • Normal Boss
    • 50% chance of being spawned.
    • 0.25 second delay before another enemy can be spawned.
  • Enraged
    • 30% chance of being spawned.
    • 0.1 second delay before another enemy can be spawned.

Strategy

  • Multiple starter towers such as the Sniper and Scout should be enough to defeat the Grave Digger.
    • High DPS towers, like the Minigunner, Ranger or Accelerator can also be used, though they can be quite expensive for Casual mode.
      • The Commander and DJ Booth should be used to support these towers.
      • Be aware that the Grave Digger can spawn multiple enemies at once. This means that if the Accelerator locks onto the Grave Digger, you may need to place other towers like the Minigunner or Turret to deal with the summoned enemies.
  • Rocketeers, Demomen and Mortars can be helpful against this boss as they are able to kill the enemies summoned from the Triumphing Sheol ability fairly well.
  • Towers near the path are vulnerable to the Stomp and Grave Digging abilities. Placing towers away from the path can help avoid some of them getting stunned.
    • Cliff towers, air-based towers and the Medic are immune to its Stomp attack. The Gladiator and Warden can also block the attack once every few seconds.
      • The Medic's ability can be used to cleanse towers that are stunned.
    • In Casual mode, this should not matter too much, as the stun effect wears off quickly.
    • Despite being an enemy in the Casual mode, which implies it should be the easiest, it actually has one of the highest damage values for an enemy.
  • If you want to kill the Grave Digger quickly, instant damage methods such as airdropping Riot Guards or multiple Bear Traps from Trapper can be effective.
  • The Toxic Gunner cannot slowdown the Grave Digger, the DJ Booth cannot slow it down, it cannot be knocked back and the Jester cannot confuse it. All other stalling towers are usable, though they some will be much less effective because of its immunities and large size.
  • Using the Nuke consumable can greatly wound the Grave Digger by reducing it to 10,000 health, though this is not recommended as the Grave Digger is fairly weak and the consumable could be used for bigger threats.

Trivia

  • There is a Roblox bundle based on the Grave Digger, namely the Grave Digger bundle.
    • Weirdly, the bundle used to call the Grave Digger a goblin in its name, despite it not being a goblin in-game.
    • The individual items of the bundle, such as the Grave Digger Goblin - Torso, still call it a goblin.
  • The Grave Digger's final wave music is a remixed version of Cursed Abbey.
    • Coincidentally, the Raider Boss also used the same song, just not remixed.
  • According to 1x1x1x1 in Classic Forest Camp, the Grave Digger is its camping buddy.
  • The animation played when summoning is a reference to the Eureka Effect's teleport ability from Team Fortress 2.
