- "Sentry comin' up!"
- ―Store Description
Description
The Engineer is a hardcore tower that attacks enemies with a rebar launcher and can build sentries within its range to assist with defense. It can be purchased from the store for 4,500 and has a level requirement of Level 60. The Engineer is also available through a gamepass for
2,250.
The Engineer has three range rings: the white ring is the attack range of the Engineer, the yellow ring is the placement range for sentries, and the red ring is the deadzone range in which the Engineer cannot fire and sentries cannot be built. The Engineer collects scrap when damaging enemies. The amount of scrap gotten per shot is equivalent to the damage dealt to an enemy. This scrap will fill up its Scrap Meter, which can be seen above its tower icon in the upgrade box or when you hover your cursor over it. When its Scrap Meter is full, the Engineer will briefly stop attacking to build a sentry. Within upgrades, the Engineer will build stronger sentries, however, they will require more scrap to be built. There is a limit to how many sentries can be built. If the Scrap Meter is filled up but the maximum number of sentries are placed, the Engineer will wait until a sentry is despawned or destroyed before building another sentry.
Sentries built by the Engineer are units, though they cannot move and will only be placed on the ground in the yellow range ring. They have health, which drains over time or decreases when hit by an enemy ability that deals damage, limiting the amount of time they can stay alive. The amount left before a sentry despawns can be seen with the duration bar above a sentry.
The Engineer is considered an all-round tower due to its cheap placement cost, decent DPS on early levels and very expensive upgrades with extremely high DPS later on.
The Engineer has a placement limit of six per player.

Strategy
- The Engineer is a very powerful late-game tower, as its DPS combined with its maximum number of sentries is the second highest in the game.
- Since its sentries have a shield that makes them immune to damage, it can also be powerful against major bosses like the Void Reaver. Do note that the shield is only active when the Engineer is not stunned.
- You can use the Medic to cleanse the stuns from the Engineer, bringing back the shield for its sentries. This can make the Engineer's sentries practically invulnerable to damage.
- Since its sentries have a shield that makes them immune to damage, it can also be powerful against major bosses like the Void Reaver. Do note that the shield is only active when the Engineer is not stunned.
- The Engineer can be used as an early game tower due to its decent DPS and sentry DPS and its cheap cost.
- Since the Engineer has flying detection and lead detection, while its units also have lead detection from Level 0, it can also be used as an early game tower in Hardcore mode.
- Placing multiple Level 3 Engineers is cost-effective due to its ability to place Rifle Sentries.
- The sentries are not affected by any buffs or debuffs, but the Engineer is still affected by all of them.
- Due to how expensive the Engineer is, the DJ Booth is highly recommended, as it can greatly decrease the Engineer's cost.
- It can also be useful for increasing the Engineer's attack range.
- Neither the sentry building range nor the deadzone range will be affected.
- It can also be useful for increasing the Engineer's attack range.
- The Engineer needs to fill its Scrap Meter before it can build a sentry, which it can fill up by dealing damage to enemies. Using the Commander, you can summon sentries faster since the damage is dealt faster.
- The Mercenary Base can also increase its damage, which also affects its Scrap Meter, allowing it to summon sentries even faster.
- The Field Medic cannot heal or shield the Engineer's sentries, as they are not considered humanoids.
- It is recommended to set the Engineer's targeting to Strongest to fill its Scrap Meter faster due to the higher damage dealt and minimal damage wasted.
- Do note that when the Engineer is building a sentry, it is unable to attack for a short while, allowing enemies to pass through, especially hidden enemies.
- This is not an issue on later levels as the Engineer can have more than a single sentry. Having other towers alongside the Engineer can also help mitigate this issue.
- The Mercenary Base can also increase its damage, which also affects its Scrap Meter, allowing it to summon sentries even faster.
Trivia
- The Engineer is the only tower to have three range rings.
- The white ring is the Engineer's range, the yellow ring is the sentry placement range, and the red ring is a deadzone range where the Engineer cannot fire or build sentries.
- The Engineer tower is very loosely based on the Engineer Monkey from the Bloons Tower Defense series.
- The rebar launcher used by the Engineer is a reference to a similar weapon used by MUL-T from Risk of Rain 2.
- The Engineer's sentry shield is based on the Wrangler shield, used by the Engineer from Team Fortress 2.
- The store description of the Engineer is a reference to a voice line said by the Team Fortress 2 Engineer, "Sentry goin' up!".
- While unlikely to be seen as this can only happen through bugs, the shield sentries get at Level 4+ does not make them just immune to enemy abilities, but every form of damage, including damage from towers.
- The Engineer is the first tower that has 6 upgrades.
- The Engineer went through multiple changes before being released.
- Rather than using a rebar launcher, it wielded a pistol, which, with levels, would be replaced with various rifles.
- The Engineer had five sentries instead of four, which had different purposes.
- The first three sentries were single target sentries, which would only deal damage to one enemy. These sentries are still in the game, with them being the Sentry, Rifle Sentry and Minigun Sentry.
- The fourth sentry was the Missile Sentry, which was a quad missile launcher that would deal splash damage.
- The fifth and last sentry was the Support Beacon, which would reveal hidden enemies in its range.
- Due to there being multiple types of sentries, you would be able to pick what kind of sentries the Engineer would place.
- The Engineer alongside the Electroshocker and the Militant are the only towers that detect flying enemies that do not gain flying detection at Level 0.
- The Sniper, Engineer, DJ Booth, Pursuit and Commander are the only towers that can damage all enemies, no matter their immunities.
- The Engineer Level 6 upgrade is most likely a reference to Illegal Gun Parts from Terraria.
- The Engineer is canonically Brawler's sister.

Notes
- ā Through War Machine Sentry splash damage, flying enemies may be hit indirectly if another detectable enemy is nearby, but units from this tower can never directly target flying enemies.
- ā Does not account for time taken to build Sentries.
- ā Combined DPS is the total DPS of the tower itself and the max number of units at that Level.
- ā Uses combined DPS in the calculation.
- ā Sentries are not affected by all buffs and debuffs.
- ā Assumes only one sentry is placed down and does not include Engineer DPS.
DPS is calculated as Gun DPS + Splash DPS. - ā Rev-up time of 1.5 seconds is not considered into the DPS.
- ā 62.5 Gun DPS + 17.5 Rocket DPS.
Rev-up time of 1.5 seconds is not considered into the DPS.
Rocket DPS assumes only one enemy is hit and receives full splash damage. - ā Code obtained by purchasing an Engineer Plush.
