- "A support tower that boosts the firerate of towers within its range."
- ―Store Description
Description
The Commander is an advanced support tower that decreases the firerate of towers within its range, increasing their damage output. It can be purchased in the store for 4,000.
The Commander provides a 12.5% firerate boost to towers in its range, making them attack enemies faster. This buff can be boosted further at Level 2+ through the Call to Arms ability, which increases it by 15% for ten seconds. Both buffs get higher with levels, with the passive buff getting increased to 20% and the Call to Arms ability buff getting increased to 30%. It also has a second ability, Support Caravan, which costs $2,000 to use. This will summon two Gunner APCs and one Missile APC on the map. When any ability used, it will enter fury mode, allowing it to attack any enemy in its range for ten seconds. The attack time from using an ability stacks if multiple are used at once or when an ability is used while it is attacking. When an ability is used while fury mode is active, the timer for it will stop until the ability animation is finished.
The Commander is the primary narrator in most matches. Text dialogue appears beside the Commander, corresponding to the appearance of certain waves. This dialogue appears regardless of whether a Commander tower is present on the map, and the image of the Commander next to the dialogue will display different emotions.
The Commander has a placement limit of four per player.

Strategy
- Firerate boost is calculated as
- With the Firerate Bug:
- ((Bugged Firerate - Firerate Bug Increase) Ć· (1 + Firerate Boost)) + Firerate Bug Increase
- where Bugged Firerate is the firerate with the Firerate Bug already applied.
- Without the Firerate Bug:
- Original Firerate Ć· (1+Firerate Boost)
- where Original Firerate is the intended firerate without the Firerate Bug,
- Firerate Boost is the boost supplied by the Commander in decimal form (for example, 10% is 0.1).
- For example, a Level 4 Commander (20%) will decrease the firerate of a tower firing from 1.008 seconds to 0.841 seconds.
- Without the Firerate Bug, the Commander would decrease the firerate of a tower firing from 1 second to 0.833 seconds.
- While in the game it may look like the firerate is rounded down to the second decimal, this is only visual. The firerate is longer than that and is not rounded up.
- The Firerate Bug increase is 0.008. For towers before the Entity System Update, this was 0.03, for towers, before the Overhaul Update it was 0.05. For the firerate without the Firerate Bug, you can use the Firerate Bug page.
- The Commander cannot boost the delay between firing a projectile and the projectile landing (and dealing damage) that is present for some towers, as this is not incorporated into the firerate. An example of this is the delay between projectile firing and landing for the Mortar.
- The Commander cannot decrease the cooldown of burst towers.
- The Commander also cannot boost the Executioner due to the axe not returning in time to take advantage.
- When placing a Commander, try to place it near as many towers as possible, as this will allow for a high number of towers to be boosted.
- This is also true in reverse; it is recommended that you place your towers close to a Commander (if there is one) for the firerate buff.
- This also includes cliff-based towers. The Ace Pilot and Pursuit can also be boosted, though their towers (runway and helipad, respectively) must be within range of the Commander.
- Slow firing towers, such as the Rocketeer or Ranger, will benefit massively from the firerate buff that the Commander supplies.
- Fast firing towers, due to them being heavily affected by the Firerate Bug, will have their DPS increased by a significantly smaller amount, making the Commander firerate boost weaker on them.
- Placing three Level 2+ Commanders and activating their Call to Arms ability one at a time every 10 seconds is one of the most effective ways to utilize the Commander, as Call to Arms will be permanently active if this is done correctly, providing the 30% buff permanently.
- You can also place two Level 2+ Commanders and constantly sell and replace one to renew its Call to Arms ability to save a placement for another tower, or four if you want to be safer with keeping the Call to Arms ability active at all times while not having to worry about selling and replacing Commanders, as having three Commanders require you to be quite precise to keep the 30% buff at all times, and you may get distracted from using its ability while upgrading other towers.
- You can increase the range in which the Commander can affect towers and the Call to Arms range by using the DJ Booth.
- The DJ Booth can also be useful at reducing the usage cost of the Support Caravan ability.
- It is best to use the Commander's Call to Arms ability on a boss with high health (such as a major boss, like the Fallen King).
- Be aware that some bosses have blocking abilities, meaning that a wrongly timed Call to Arms ability will be useless.
- Additionally, you cannot activate the Call to Arms ability if the Commander is stunned.
- To overcome this, the Medic's Cleansing ability can be used to cleanse the Commander's stuns.
- Alternatively, you can sell and replace the Commander. Do note that this will remove the passive firerate buff for a short while if there are no other Commanders placed down.
- Be aware that you cannot stack the Call to Arms ability.
- If a Call to Arms ability is still active for towers, then activating another Call to Arms will not grant any additional buff. However, it resets the duration of the ability.
- However, the Call to Arms ability can stack with boosts from other towers, like the Gladiator's Warrior's Call.
- The Commander cannot boost the firerate of the Ace Pilot's bombs, Pursuit's missiles, Commando's missiles or any units like the Railgun Tank from the Military Base or the Body Guard from the Crook Boss, even if their associated tower is in the range of a Commander.
- If the Call to Arms ability is active, and a new tower is placed in the range of the Commander, that tower will not be boosted by the ability until it is activated again.
- While the Commander has flying, lead and hidden detection, you should not solely rely on it to defeat enemies with these traits, given how costly it is to get its abilities and that it has a cooldown per use.
- Other towers like the Ace Pilot, Electroshocker and Militant are more reliable against them, with the Commander buffing them.
Trivia
- When the game was in Alpha, the Commander's upgrade stats were not displayed on its upgrade description. It was simply referred to as "sans support sans support".
- The Commander is heavily inspired by the Tower Battles tower of the same name.
- Before the Overhaul Update, the spawnrate of the Military Base could be boosted by a Commander (so that the spawn time between units is reduced), but it was through an unconventional method. The stated buff was subtracted from the spawnrate (an example is a 25% buff on a Level 5 Military Base; the spawnrate would decrease from 45 to 44.75).
- As 44.75 seconds rounded up to 45 seconds, there was no noticeable decrease in spawn time.
- However, this did not apply to the spawnrates of units from the Crook Boss.
- Interestingly, the Call to Arms reduced the spawnrate of units from the Military Base further, but even this buff could not produce a noticeable decrease in spawnrate.
- The original Call to Arms sound was just a short shout. This is the same sound used for the Gladiator's Warrior's Call ability.
- The second version of the Call to Arms sounds were voiced by YouTuber JOHN ROBLOX. There were three lines voiced by him.
- There were multiple other voice lines that were recorded by JOHN ROBLOX, however they were never added to the game. All of those lines, along variations of current lines that were not added, can be heard here.
- This version was replaced on the 16th of May 2024 to match with the quality of other voice lines at the time as well as to have a professional voice act the lines.
- The Maid (and formerly the Eclipse) skin voice lines are voiced by nekoriru.
- The Eclipse skin voice lines voiced by BethyVA.
- The Umbra skin voice lines were voiced BethyVA.
- The Eggrypted skin voice lines were voiced by Eggrypted.
- The second version of the Call to Arms sounds were voiced by YouTuber JOHN ROBLOX. There were three lines voiced by him.
- Originally, when the Commander was first added to the game, you could stand on the wooden stool before placing the Commander down.
- Prior to the Community Maps Update, the Commander used to appear alongside the Pyromancer, Scout, Sniper and Minigunner on the "Triumph" screen. This was changed to your towers' loadout.
- Before the Overhaul Update, it appeared alongside the Commando.
- During Hardcore Testing BETA, it appeared alongside the Minigunner.
- The "Triumph" screen used the Galactic skin instead of the Default skin.
- Before the Solar Eclipse Update, it appeared alongside the Soldier.
- Before the MEGA Update, multiple Call to Arms abilities could be stacked. This could reduce the firerate of towers that ordinarily had high, like the Outlaw, to low firerates. Due to most slow firing towers dealing a lot of damage in a single shot, this could easily kill major bosses, like the Gold Titan.
- Originally, there was a poll made on BelowNatural's Twitter that held contestants for the next Golden skin. One of the options, which was the most chosen, was a Golden Commander skin.
- Instead of a Golden Commander skin being made, there was instead a Golden Cowboy skin. It is unknown why this change was made.
- The Commander enemy from Pizza Party is based on the Commander tower.
- The Sniper, Engineer, DJ Booth and Commander are the only towers that can damage all enemies, no matter their immunities.
