2021 PVP Maps has not been implemented in the actual game, though it may have been in testing places, teased by the developers or left unused in-game.
Because of this, not all information on the item in question is known. Additionally, whenever it will be added in the future is not always clear.
Descriptions
Around 2021, at least eight maps were created for an at the time upcoming 2021 PVP mode, which was eventually scrapped, making all the maps unused. These maps are Battlefront, Castle Outskirts, Dusty Ruins, Waste Ground, Fraction Zone, WIP City, Backwoods and a castle map whose name is not known, which will be referred to as Unknown Castle Map on the wiki. Some of these map had two versions, though the second version generally only had additional details not present on the first one.
As for the most recent PVP Tests, an entirely new set of maps has been made, it is unlikely these maps will ever be added to the game. Some of them, such as Crash Course, do resemble maps made for the 2021 version of PVP, in this case that being WIP City, though they are not the same map.
Design & Path
Backwoods consists of two small towns surrounded by hills on all sides. These two locations are separated by a gap in the ground. In these towns, there are a few small houses with roof colored after the team, a store with a parking lot in front of it and a small park with a fountain. The towns have multiple grey roads, some blocked by blockades.
The path starts and ends at a tunnel. It takes multiple turns around the building, avoiding all the blockades set on the path.
Battlefront, as the name suggests, take place at a battlefront. It is located in a grass area surrounded by trees. There are two trenches in the terrain, one for the red team and other for the blue team. These trenches contain multiple crates and walls. On each side, there is a flagpole with a flag colored after the team color.
The path starts and ends at an underground tunnel. The path takes multiple turns, making each straight path rather short.
Castle Outskirts is located in a flat area surrounded by multiple hills. The map contains two sides separated by a row or rocks. Each side has multiple medieval buildings with roofs colored based on which team's side they are on. There are also a few small cliffs and trees scattered around the location.
The black path starts and ends at a cave. It takes multiple turns, avoiding all natural and man-made structures on the path.
This map had two versions shown. The second version had its path replaced with a brown dirt path and multiple objects on the map have been relocated.
Dusty Ruins is a barren location located in the desert. It is surrounded by multiple hills. The map is split into two parts by a row of rocks. On each side, there are a few wooden crates, colorful barrels based on which team's side they are on and a single flag colored after the team. Multiple sand cliff can also be found on the map.
The sand path starts and ends at a cave. The path takes multiple turns, avoiding the multiple cliffs present on the map.
The second version of the map had a slightly more detailed path.
Gameplay of the second version of this map was featured in Roblox 2021 Cinematic video uploaded to Youtube by Roblox. It also shows a few enemies from 2021 PVP which never made it into the game, these being the Enraged Boss and Enraged Giant.
Fraction Zone is a settlement located in snowy hills. It is an area surrounded by hills on all sides. The playable area is split into two halves by a few ice hills. Multiple tents colored based on which team's side they are located in are present on the map. A few wooden crates can also be found scattered around the map.
The path starts and ends at a cave. It takes multiple turns, avoiding the multiple ice cliffs present on the map.
The second version of the map had slightly different tents, as it contained green ones. However, this could just be team colors being removed from the map image, similarly to how the team flags in the Battlefront second icon are white.
Unknown Castle Map is located inside a castle. Due to there only being a blurry icon of the map, not many details are known on its appearance. The map itself is surrounded by multiple castle walls. It also has a few small cliffs and rocks. It had a grey path with yellow outlines.
Waste Ground is, as the name suggests, a map located in a waste ground. The ground is entirely grey and all the trees on the map are dead. The map is surrounded by hills on two sides and by sand on the other two sides. The map is split into two halves by a small gap between the two halves. Each half has a few lamp posts, utility poles and metal fences. A few cliffs can also be seen.
The path starts and ends at a cave. It takes multiple turns, avoiding various structures on the map.
WIP City takes place in a large city. The city contains multiple buildings, most of which having placeholder textures. The buildings on the edges of the city are colored orange while the ones in the playable area are colored after the team color. A few lamps, crates and dumpsters can be seen around the map. The city also has a few grassy areas with trees and a parking lot, though no cars can be seen in them.
The path starts and ends at a tunnel. The path takes multiple turns to avoid the buildings present on this map.
Trivia
- WIP City strongly resembles the unfinished developer texture style seen in incomplete projects, hence its name.
- Castle Outskirts is an updated version of Castle Outskirts, a Versus map from 2019.
- One of the enemies that was meant to be used in 2021 PVP can actually be accessed in Sandbox mode, that is the legacy Enraged.
- Enraged was part of a group of similarly named and looking enemies intended for the mode. The other enraged enemies include the Enraged Boss and Enraged Giant.
- All the enraged enemies not present in Sandbox mode can be seen in Roblox 2021 Cinematic video.
- While far more enemies were made for the mode, none of them were officially teased by the developers or leaked by Roblox, only exception to this is Roblox Multipack - Cyber City containing the Abyss/Corruption enemy.
